PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the Nuttycombe Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin on Friday, September 27. The race will be held at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course. The women's 6k race will begin at 1:20 p.m., followed by the men's 8k race.
The Friar women enter the race ranked 10th nationally and first in the Northeast Region. The men's team comes in ranked fourth in the Northeast Region. Both the men's and women's team each will be competing in a field with 16 out of the top-30 nationally ranked programs.
Leading the pack for the women will be graduate student
Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England), senior
Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) and graduate student
Alex Millard (Kent, England)
. In the Friars' last meet at the Friar Invitational in Attleboro, Mass., on September 6,
Flockhart won the women's race (4k) in a time of 14:13.49 and led the team to a first-place finish over three other teams. May and Millard have not run this year. May had a strong cross-country campaign in 2023, helping the Friars reach the NCAA Championships. It will mark May's fourth consecutive year competing in the Nuttycombe Invite. Millard will be running her first race as a Friar after transferring from Loughborough University in England. In 2023, she captured the British University Cross Country Championship.
Senior
Michael Morgan (Sligo, Ireland) and graduate student
Pat Thygesen (Brisbane, Australia) will lead the Friar men. Most recently, Morgan won the Friar Invitational men's race (6k) in a time of 18:11.48, leading the Friar men's team to a first-place finish overall. Thyrgesen finished second at the Friar Invitational in a time of 18:31.55. Both runners will be making their third appearance at the Nuttycombe Invitational.
