Athletic Department Mission Statement

The mission of the Providence College Intercollegiate Athletics program is to foster the personal development and education of young men and women through their participation in NCAA Division I athletics.

Athletic contests provide an opportunity for the campus and the community at large to demonstrate their support of the College, its athletics program, and the student-athletes.

The Athletic Department strives to fulfill student-athlete needs and goals in an environment steeped in the Dominican tradition in which honesty, integrity, mutual respect, effort and constant improvement are cherished and cultivated.

General Information

Institutional Control:Institutional Control of athletics is a fundamental requirement of NCAA Legislation. Specifically, the NCAA constitution states that Providence College must:

  • Control its intercollegiate athletic programs in compliance with the rules and regulations of the NCAA, BIG EAST Conference and Providence College;
  • Monitor its program to insure compliance;
  • Identify and report to the NCAA instances in which compliance has not been achieved and take corrective actions; and
  • Insure those members of the Providence College staff, student-athletes and other individuals or groups representing the College's athletic interests comply with NCAA, BIG EAST Conference and Providence College rules and regulations.

Compliance with NCAA, BIG EAST Conference and Providence College rules and regulations is the highest priority for our athletic program and institution. As a member of the NCAA, the College is responsible for the actions of its alumni, supporters and fans. Even the best-intentioned action on your part may be a violation of NCAA rules. Please contact the Providence College Athletic Compliance Office if you have any questions about any NCAA rules or their application.
