PROVIDENCE, R.I. – It was announced today [Nov. 17] that Providence College guard
Sabou Gueye (Dakar, Senegal) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. It marked the first conference honors of the season for Gueye, who joined Providence as a graduate transfer ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Gueye, a guard, averaged 16.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 blocked shots and 1.0 steal per game as the Friars claimed two victories last week vs. Central Connecticut (65-40) and Boston College (70-61). In those games, she combined to shoot 48.3-percent from the field (14-29).
Against the Blue Devils, she posted 16 points, eight rebounds, one assist, one blocked shot and one steal. Gueye closed the week with her first double-double as a Friar [third of her career] on 16 points, 12 boards, three assists and three blocked shots.
For the season, Gueye is the only Friar to score in double figures each game. She's averaging a team-best 16.0 points and also contributes 7.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.7 blocks and 2.0 steals per game.
The Friars are currently 2-1 on the season and will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 18 against Northeastern at 11:00 a.m. in Providence, R.I. The game will serve as the backdrop for the Friars' annual Project Providence game, with more than 1,100 elementary and middle school students attending the game.
