Sabou Gueye (Dakar, Senegal) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Dec. 22. Gueye earned league honors for the third time this season, having previously been named to the weekly honor roll on Nov. 17 and Nov. 24.
Gueye scored a career-high 23 points in the Friars 68-61 overtime victory against Georgetown on Dec. 22. It marked Providence's only game of the week. Gueye shot 10-15 from the field and 3-3 from the foul line in the game. She also recorded a game-high eight rebounds (six offensive), six steals and three blocks and added one assist.
In her first season with the Friars, Gueye leads the team in scoring with 13.9 points per game and shoots a team-best 51-percent from the field (76-149) and 73-percent from the foul line (27-37). She ranks second among her teammates in rebounding (6.2 rpg), assists (1.9 apg) and steals (1.9 spg).
She leads the Friars in double-digit scoring games (eight) and 20-point games (three), and is tied for the team lead in double-doubles (two).
Providence College (8-5, 1-2 BIG EAST) returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 28 against No. 3/3 South Carolina. The game will be played at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, S.C. and will tip off at Noon on SEC Network.
