PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College men's and women's track teams competed at the Brown Invitational on February 22 in Providence, R.I. Five Friars earned first-place finishes. For the women, freshman
Chloe Higgins (Morristown, N.J.) won the 300 meters (40.70) and sophomore
Shea Podbelski (Norton, Mass.) captured the mile (5:12.46). For the men, junior
Kyle Bloomer (Darien, Conn.) won the 300 meters (36.04), graduate student
Jacob Hefele (Danbury, Conn.) won the mile (4:26.24) and junior
Grady Satterfield (Bowdoinham, Maine) earned a win in the 3,000 meters (8:47.63).
The Friar women had a number of runners that had a successful meet. Junior
Charlotte Cousins (Madbury, N.H.) finished second in the 60-meter hurdles (8.96) and she placed second in the 60 meters (7.91) – both were personal records.
In addition to Higgins in the 300 meters, freshman
Keira Kelly (Scotch Plains, N.J) (second, 41.64), junior
Elena Cabral (Somerset, Mass.) (third, 42.66) and sophomore Margaret Kemper (Huntington, N.Y.) (fourth, 42.75) all finished in the top four.
In the 500 meters, junior
Lexi Brent (York, Maine) placed third (1:20.11).
In the 1,000 meters, freshman
Kaelin McCaffrey (Northport, N.Y.) finished third (3:02.87).
On the men's side, junior
Will Rainey (San Jose, Calif.) finished second in the 300 (36.08). The Friars also got strong races from freshman
Ryan Welch (Wyckoff, N.J.) and freshman
Liam O'Neill (Natick, Mass.) in the 1,000 meters. Welch placed second (2:31.32) and O'Neill was third (2:32.98).
Freshman Tommy Hunt (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) placed third in the mile (4:36.45).
The Friar men's and women's track teams will return to action on Feb. 28-March 1 at BIG EAST Indoor Track Championship in Chicago, Ill.
