PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College freshman forward
Logan Sawyer (Orangeville, Ont.) was named Pro Ambitions Hockey East Rookie of the Week on Monday, February 24. Sawyer earns his second Rookie of the Week recognition in February and it marks the fifth time a Friar has earned the honor this season –
Will Elger (Oct. 28),
Trevor Connelly (Nov. 11) and
John Mustard (Dec. 2), Sawyer (Feb. 3).
In Providence's lone game of the weekend on Saturday, Sawyer registered the game-winning goal with 2:53 remaining in regulation as the Friars rallied in the third period for a 4-2 win over #13 UMass Lowell at Schneider Arena. In 31 games this season. Sawyer has totaled 13 points on four goals and nine assists with a +8 rating. He ranks second on the team with 82 shots on goal.
The No. 7 Friars will battle Merrimack in a home-and-home series beginning on Friday (Feb. 28) at Schneider Arena.
