PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Raleigh Relays, held at the Paul Derr Track and Field Facility in Raleigh, N.C., from March 27 to March 29. Graduate student 
Alex Millard (Kent, England) captured the 5,000 meters over 178 runners in a time of 15:27.02.  The Friar women's team also got a strong performance from senior Kimberely May (Auckland, New Zealand), who placed second of 223 runners in the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:06.58 – one second behind the winner (Margot Appleton of Virginia, 4:05.68).  May's 4:06.58 is ninth best time in collegiate history and a personal best.
 
Junior 
Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland) and graduate student 
Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) also ran the 1,500 meters.  Laverty placed 10
th (4:17.56) and Flockhart was 11
th (4:17.61).  Freshman 
Annie Mann (Hampshire, England) also finished 24
th in the 1,500 (4:19.97).
 
In the women's 800, sophomore 
Maeve O'Neill (Cork, Ireland) finished fifth of 165 runners in a time of 2:04.97.
 
Freshman 
Chloe Higgins (Morristown, N.J.) ran a strong race in the 400 meters.  She ran the second fastest time in program history as the freshman finished in 55.66 and placed 28
th of 113 runners.
 
Senior Niamh O'Mahony (Kerry, Ireland) placed 24
th in the 10,000 in a personal best time of 34:50.91. 
 
In addition to Millard, freshman 
Anna Gardiner (Downpatrick, Northern Ireland) also ran the 5,000 meters.  She placed third in her heat in a time of 16:20.47
 
The Friar women's 4 x 400 team of Higgins, junior Jillian Fenerty (Franklin, Mass.), freshman 
Keira Kelly (Scotch Plains, N.J.) and junior Elana Cabral (Somerset, Mass.) placed second in their heat  in a time of 3:49.35, which is  the second fastest time in the program history.
 
Leading the way for the Friar men was senior 
Brett Lehman (Lower Gwynedd, Pa.).  He placed eighth in the 400 meters and tied his own program record in a time of 47.27. 
 
Graduate student Patrick Thygesen (Brisbane, Australia) competed in the steeplechase and placed 23
rd in a time of 8:53.05. Senior 
Michael Morgan (Sligo, Ireland) ran in the 10,000 meters and finished in a time of 29:27.96. 
 
Freshman 
Cormac Dixon (Dublin, Ireland) ran the 5,000 meters in a time of 13:57.99.
 
In the men's 1,500 meters, sophomore 
Will Johnston (Auckland, New Zealand) won his heat in a time of 3:45.15.  Sophomore 
Tyler Bartlett (Fairfield, Conn.) was second in his heat of the 1,500 meters (3:45.54).  Both men ran a personal best.
 
In the 800 meters, Bartlett placed first in his heat in a time of 1:51.34.  Johnston was third in his heat (1:51.45). 
 
Graduate student 
Liam Back (New Plymouth, England) finished sixth in his heat in the 5,000 meters (14:03.10).
 
The Friar men's 4 x 400 team of Lehman, junior 
Kyle Bloomer (Darien, Conn.), freshman 
Thomas Breen (Providence, R.I.), and junior William Rainey (San Jose, Calif.) set a program record with a time of 3:15.70.

The Friar men's and women's track teams will return to action at the Ocean State Cup at Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I., on Saturday, April 5.
