PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Friar men's hockey has added defenseman Quinn Mantei (Weyburn, Sask.) to the 2025-26 roster after he signed an athletic aid agreement to attend Providence College. Mantei joins the Friars after a four-year career with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL.
The 6-foot, 186-pound left-shot defenseman served as captain of the Wheat Kings in 2024-25, posting career-highs in goals (7), assists (38), points (45) and plus/minus (+25). Mantei appeared in 250 games with Brandon over four seasons, totaling 14 goals and 98 assists for 112 points. He earned WHL Player of the Week honors on Jan. 27, 2025 after an eight-point performance over three games.
Mantei earned invites to Development Camp and NHL Training Camp with the Calgary Flames back in 2023. He was a two-time winner of Brandon's Brad McCrimmon Trophy, given annually to the team's top defenseman. In 2022-23, he was recognized with the WHL's Daryl K. (Doc) Seaman Memorial Trophy awarded annually to the league's Scholastic Player of the Year.
