OTTAWA, Ontario – Former Friars Sara Hjalmarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden) '22, '23G and
Brooke Becker '24, '25G (Orchard Park, N.Y.) were selected in the fifth round (35th overall) and the sixth round (46th overall) by the Toronto Sceptres and Minnesota Frost, respectively, in the 2025 Professional Women's Hockey League Draft held at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Ottawa, Ontario on Tuesday, June 24. Hjalmarsson and Becker become the third and fourth Friar in program history to be selected in the PWHL Draft, joining Sandra Abstreiter '22, '23G in 2023 and Noemi Neubauerová '23G in 2024.
Hjalmarsson played in the Swedish Women's Hockey League for Linköping HC for the last two seasons. In 67 games, Hjalmarsson registered 64 points on 30 goals and 34 assists. The Swedish native played in her sixth World Championship this past April where she recorded five assists in six games, leading Sweden to a sixth-place finish. In February, Hjalmarsson helped Sweden secure a place in the 2026 Winter Olympics after registering three goals and two assists for five points in the three group qualifying games. The 2026 Winter Olympics will mark the third Olympic Games that Hjalmarsson has participated in.
At Providence, Hjalmarsson played in 150 games, the fourth most in program history, and recorded a total of 62 goals and 60 assists for 122 points. In her final season, Hjalmarsson led the Friars in points with 44 on 24 goals and 20 assists across 37 games. During the 2022-23 season, she earned the Hockey East Best Defensive Forward award and was named a First Team Hockey East All-Star.
Becker played in all 35 games during the 2024-25 season, finishing third all-time in program history with 163 games played. She recorded 18 points on five goals and 13 assists in her senior season, earning Hockey East Second-Team All-Star and New England Hockey Writers All-Star honors all while leading the Friars with three power-play goals. Becker was also named Army ROTC Defender of the Week. In 2023-24, she was named to the All-Hockey East Third Team and earned Hockey East Player of the Week. In 2022-23, Becker appeared in all 37 games and was recognized as the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week during the season. During her 2020-21 rookie campaign, she led all Providence defensemen in scoring with 14 points, earned a spot on the Hockey East Pro Ambitions All-Rookie Team and was honored as both Rookie of the Week and Rookie of the Month.
