Mark Ellis Named Director Of High Performance At Providence College

In addition to overseeing the High Performance Department, Ellis will serve as the High Performance Coach for women’s basketball.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – It was announced today [June 25] that Mark Ellis has been named Director of High Performance / High Performance Coach – Women's Basketball at Providence College. In this role, he will oversee five full-time high performance coaches and one graduate assistant. He also will serve as the primary high performance coach for women's basketball.
 
"We are excited to work with Mark and look forward to having him in Friartown," women's basketball Head Coach Erin Batth said. "He has great energy and enthusiasm. Mark also has experience at high-academic institutions. At each of his last two stops, he has helped to mentor and develop conference and national champions. He has experience working with several sports and has an impressive knowledge base in the current technology used in the field of sport performance."
 
Ellis arrives at Providence after spending last two years at Northwestern University as Director of Olympic Sports Performance (2023-25). In his role at Northwestern, he oversaw a staff of five assistant director of sports performance coaches, while fostering a collaborative environment to maximize athlete performance. He also worked closely with a high-performance team made up of professionals in the field of nutrition, sports medicine and sports psychology. During his tenure with the Wildcats, he worked directly with the field hockey and swimming & diving programs. Each of his teams and several individual athletes qualified for the NCAA Championships. The field hockey program claimed the National Title in 2024.
 
Prior to his stint at Northwestern, Ellis served as Assistant Sports Performance Coach at Princeton University (2021-23). At Princeton, Ellis worked directly with the men's lacrosse, men's swimming & diving, men's soccer and women's tennis teams. He was responsible for evaluating individual athlete's abilities, needs and physical condition and he developed training programs to meet the demands and requirements for each sport. Ellis also managed the athletic fueling station.
 
Ellis also served as Assistant Athletic Performance Coach at Stony Brook University (2020-21), Strength and Conditioning Coach at Professional Performance Center in Garden City, N.Y. (2019-20) and the Volunteer Strength and Conditioning Coach at Hofstra University (2019-20). He began his career in high performance as a Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Hofstra (2018-19).
 
Ellis attended Stony Brook University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in multidisciplinary studies in 2017. He earned a Master of Science in sports science at Hofstra in 2019. Ellis was a stand-out lacrosse player at both schools and went on to play professionally for the Long Island Lizards in Major League Lacrosse (MLL) (2019-21). With Hofstra, Ellis earned USILA Scholar All-American in 2019. During his pro career in 2020, he was a nominee for the David Huntley Man of the Year Award.
 
Ellis is Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC), Heartsaver First Aid CPR and AED certified, a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and has earned a Stronger Experts Velocity Based Training Certification.
