Friars Set To Host Bryant And New Hampshire At Lennon Family Field

Providence hosts Bryant on Friday, Sept. 12 at 3:00 p.m. and New Hampshire on Sunday, Sept. 14 at Noon.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team is scheduled to play a pair of non-conference matches this weekend. On Friday, Sept. 12, Providence will host Bryant University at 3:00 p.m. The team closes the weekend with a home match against New Hampshire on Sunday, Sept. 14 at Noon. Both matches will be played at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. and streamed on Friars Live.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE (3-0):
• Providence enters the weekend with a 3-0 record, marking the first 3-0 start for the Friars since 2006. Since 2006, the Friars have started the year 2-1 nine times.
• Eight different players have scored at least one goal this season through three games, with Lily Procaccianti and Bo Martina being the only players to score multiple goals.
• A handful of players have recorded their first career points this season, including Piper Cline, Johanna Mahner, Martu Torre Festa, Ari Ftorek and Lilia Payne.
• Procaccianti is tied for the team lead in scoring with six points on a team-best three goals. Martina is tied for third in scoring with four points on two goals.
Carly van Benten is tied with Procaccianti for the team lead in points (six). She has recorded one goal and a team-best four assists.
• Freshman Ava Porter has started each of the Friars' three games in goal this season and owns a 0.97 goals against average and a 0.842 save percentage. 
• Porter has been honored by the BIG EAST each of the last two weeks. On Sept. 2, she was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, following Providence's season-opening win at Boston University (3-2 - 2/OT, SO). On Sept. 9, she was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her performance in wins over Holy Cross and Merrimack.
• Procaccianti joined Porter on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Sept. 9. Procaccianti scored three goals last week. On Sept. 5 at Holy Cross, she scored the game-winning goal with five-seconds left in regulation to provide Providence a 2-1 victory. She closed the week with a two-goal performance against Merrimack (Sept. 7). It marked just the second multi-goal game of her career.

SCOUTING BRYANT (2-2):
• Bryant enters the weekend with a 2-2 record. 
• First-year Head Coach Kellie Joyce spent four seasons as an assistant coach for Head Coach Diane Madl at Providence College (2018-21). 
• Bryant graduate assistant Asia Porter was the Friars' starting goalkeeper each of the previous five seasons. Her sister, Ava, has started each of Providence's last three games in goal for the Friars. 
• The Bulldogs earned back-to-back victories against New Haven (6-0) and Stonehill (4-0) on opening weekend before dropping games to Dartmouth (2-1) and Hofstra (2-1) last week.
• Seven different Bulldogs have scored goals through four games. 
• Callie Caito leads Bryant in scoring with nine points on four goals and one assist.
• Megan Smith is second in scoring with five points on two goals and one assist.
• Maddy DeFilippo rounds out the list of multi-goal scorers, with two.
• Alexa Sedicino leads Bryant in assists (four).
• Maud van Lierop and Sara DeSousa have each played over 100 minutes in goal this season. Van Lierop is 0-2 on the year and has recorded a 1.90 goals against average and a 0.733 save percentage. DeSousa is 2-0 while being credited with two shutout victories. She did not record a save in either of the matches she played.
 
SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE (0-3)
• New Hampshire enters the weekend with a 1-3 record. Two of the Wildcat's three losses came at the hands of nationally-ranked opponents, including No. 11 UConn (4-3), No. 9 Saint Joseph's (2-0). The Wildcats are coming off a 4-1 loss to Miami (Ohio) on Sept. 5.
• UNH will face Northeastern on Friday, Sept. 12 before making its way to Providence on Sunday, Sept. 14.
• Faye Meijer leads the team in scoring with four points on two goals.
• Kathelijne Knuttel is second in scoring with three points on a team-best three assists.
• Emily Coughlin and Emily Layton round out the Wildcat's goal scorers with one each.
• Abby Johnson has played all 180 minutes in goal for UNH. She owns a 3.33 goals against average and a 0.600 save percentage.

• Providence continues its seven-game home stand with a pair of matches next weekend at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars open BIG EAST Conference play against Old Dominion on Friday, Sept. 19 at 2:30 p.m. PC closes the weekend with non-conference foe American on Sunday, Sept. 21 at Noon.
