PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College freshman goalkeeper
Ava Porter (Somerset, Mass.) was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for field hockey on Sept. 2.
Porter made her collegiate debut for the Friars on Aug. 29 against Boston University and earned her first career victory in a shootout (3-2). Porter recorded 11 saves in 80 minutes of action, spanning regulation and two overtime sessions. Porter sealed the victory for Providence with three saves on four shootout attempts by the Terriers.
Providence College (1-0) returns to action on Friday, Sept. 5 against Holy Cross. The match will be played in Worcester, Mass. at 5:00 p.m. and is scheduled to be streamed on ESPN+. The Friars will return to Providence, R.I. to host Merrimack in its home opener at Lennon Family Field on Sunday, Sept. 7 at Noon. The Friars' match vs. the Warriors will be streamed on Friars Live.
