Sharon Baldwin Joins Providence College Women's Basketball Staff As An Assistant Coach

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College women's basketball Head Coach Erin Batth announced today [Sept. 3] that Sharon Baldwin has joined her staff as an assistant coach. Baldwin owns an extensive coaching resume, including 20 years as a head coach at the NAIA and NCAA Division I levels.
"I'm very excited to have Coach Baldwin join my staff," Batth said. "I have so much respect for her and she is someone I have leaned on throughout my career. She has a great deal of experience as a head coach, she brings high energy and a great personality, and she has won championships in addition to recruiting top players. I look forward to the impact that she will have on the growth of our program and I'm especially happy for our players, as she will serve as an excellent role model for them."
Baldwin's NCAA Division I head coaching experience began at Mercer in 2001-02, leading the Bears to a 10-game improvement in the win column, marking one of the biggest turnarounds in Division I basketball that season. She spent the next eight seasons as head coach at East Carolina University (2002-10) and helped guide the Pirates to the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in school history in 2007 after winning the Conference USA Tournament title. Baldwin led East Carolina to a 23-win season in 2009-10, which is tied for the highest single-season win total in program history. Baldwin took over the head coaching duties at Georgia State in 2010-11 and remained on the sidelines with the Panthers for eight seasons (2010-18).
During Baldwin's tenure at Georgia State, Batth served three seasons as her assistant coach from 2014-17.
Prior to joining the Division I ranks, Baldwin spent three seasons as the head coach at Life University, marking the first three seasons of the program's existence. In the team's inaugural season, Baldwin led Life to a 22-11 mark and the Lady Eagles advanced to the NAIA Sweet Sixteen. In year two, Baldwin engineered a remarkable 31-3 season, including a 19-game win streak. The Lady Eagles advanced to the NAIA Elite Eight and finished the season ranked No. 1 team in the final NAIA poll. That season, Baldwin claimed WBCA NAIA National Coach of the Year honors and earned her second-straight Naismith Georgia NAIA Division III Coach of the Year award.
Baldwin played collegiately at Kennesaw State for two seasons before transferring to Georgia. At Kennesaw, she was an All-District and All-Conference selection. She averaged 18 points per game as a rookie, before improving that mark to 20 points per game as a sophomore.
She transferred to the University of Georgia for her final two seasons and was the starting guard and team captain as a senior. The Bulldogs finished inside the top 10 of the national poll during each of her two seasons on the team.
Baldwin earned a bachelor's degree in education from Georgia in 1991 and completed her Master of Education at Georgia in 1997.
Following her graduation in 1991 from Georgia, she joined Head Coach Andy Landers staff as an assistant coach for the Bulldogs. She helped guide Georgia to the NCAA Championship Game in 1996 and finished the season as the No. 2 team in the nation. Her impact with the Bulldogs was highlighted by being named Naismith National Assistant Coach of the Year. During her six-year tenure as an assistant, Georgia finished the year ranked No. 2 in 1996, No. 4 in 1995 and No. 6 in 1997.
Balwin has two children, Luke and Samantha.
