Upcoming Event: Men's Ice Hockey versus Simon Fraser (Exhibition) on October 3, 2025

Kris Mayotte enters his fifth season, second as an associate head coach at Providence College after being hired on July 23, 2014. Mayotte works closely with the Friar goaltenders as well as with the penalty kill unit and with all aspects of recruiting. Mayotte was part of the staff that won gold for Team USA at the 2017 World Junior Championships and bronze at the 2018 World Junior Championships.
In his first season with Providence, Mayotte helped the program claim its first NCAA National Championship as the Friars posted a thrilling, come-from-behind 4-3 victory over No. 1 seed Boston University at the TD Garden (April 11). Junior Goaltender Jon Gillies made a career-high 49 saves en route to being named the Frozen Four's Most Outstanding Player.
Providence finished the 2014-15 season ranked fifth in the nation in scoring defense, yielding just 2.05 goals-against per game. Mayotte helped guide Gillies to First Team Hockey East All-Star honors to become just the fifth goaltender in Hockey East history to earn multiple First Team honors and the first Friar goaltender to do so. Gillies, who signed with the NHL's Calgary Flames after the season, recorded three of the top-four single season save percentages in program history, including a .930 mark his final season.
In 2015-16, junior netminder Nick Ellis posted the single-season program record in goals-against average (1.80) and save percentage (.936). A Hockey East Honorable Mention All-Star in 2015-16, Ellis signed an NHL contract with the Edmonton Oilers at the conclusion of the season.
The 2017-18 season saw goaltender Hayden Hawkey earn Second Team Hockey East All-Star and New England All-Star accolades after recording 24 wins, a 2.04 GAA and .919 save percentage. Hawkey currently ranks second in program history with eight career shutouts entering his senior season. Mayotte's work with the penalty kill unit helped the Friars finish seventh nationally at a 85.4% clip on the PK.
Prior to joining Nate Leaman's staff at Providence, Mayotte spent the two seasons (2012-13 and 2013-14) as an assistant coach at St. Lawrence University. While working with the Saints, Mayotte served as the primary recruiter and worked closely with the goaltenders and penalty kill unit. Prior to St. Lawrence, he was a volunteer assistant coach at Cornell (2011-12) and a full-time goalie coach in Maryland (2010-11).
As a college player, Mayotte was Union College's starting goaltender from 2002-06. His final three seasons at Union included the first three seasons of Leaman's tenure as Union College head coach. Mayotte finished his college career with 116 games played and a 2.69 goals-against average.
After Union, Mayotte spent five seasons playing professionally, which included American Hockey League (AHL) stints with Lowell, Hershey, Bridgeport and Adirondack. He also played in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) for San Diego, Fresno and Johnstown and in the Central Hockey League (CHL) for Arizona.
In 2007-08, Mayotte posted an 18-9-4 record with Fresno as well as a 2.97 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage. In 2008-09, he went 20-13-3 with Johnstown while posting a 2.87 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage.
