PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College women's hockey coach Bob Deraney today announced that student-athlete Meredith Roth of Dubuque, Iowa has signed a national letter of intent to attend Providence College beginning in September 2000.

Roth, a 5-foot-8-inch defenseman, is in her senior year at prep school hockey powerhouse Shattuck-St. Mary's in Faribeault, Minn. Currently, she has scored nine goals and notched 13 assists in 19 games at Shattuck. Roth also ranks fourth on the team in scoring and has an impressive plus/minus rating of 30. Meredith is the daughter of Jim and Jacquie Roth.

"Meredith is an excellent defenseman," Deraney said. "She sees the ice very well, has a strong shot and can contribute offensively. I think she is a great addition to our team and will help our efforts to continue to have one of the top women's hockey teams in the country."
