Women's Basketball Defeated By Australian Institute, 69-55

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Australian Institute of Sport defeated Providence College, 69-55, in women's preseason college basketball action on Friday, November 5 at PC's Alumni Hall. Junior Monika Roberts (Pittsburg, Calif.) led the Friars in the loss with 16 points.
Paced by junior Meghan Hinds' (Perrysburg, Ohio) five points, the Friars took control of the game early, jumping out to an 8-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game. However, with 7:50 remaining in the first half Monique Bowley hit a 15-foot baseline jumper to put the Australian Institute ahead for the first time in the game, 19-17. The Australian Institute built on its lead over the final minutes to close out the half with a 36-26 lead. Roberts led all PC scorers with nine points after 20 minutes of action.
The Australian Institute came out of the half and continued to build on its lead to a game-high of 22 points with 6:58 remaining in the contest. The Friars battled back over the last six minutes of the game to cut the Australian Institute's lead to 14 points at the final buzzer.
Carly Wilson had a team-high 15 points for the Australian Institute.
Junior Dani Trippany (Massena, N.Y.) turned in a strong performance for Providence, scoring 10 points and grabbing seven rebounds.
Providence returns to action on Thursday, November 11 in an exhibition game against Nor'Easter Storm at 7:00 p.m. at Alumni Hall.
