Women Hoops Fall to Hoyas, 64-61

PROVIDENCE, RI - In a BIG EAST women's basketball game in Providence, RI, the Georgetown Hoyas defeated the Friars on their home court, 64-61. Providence sophomore Monika Roberts (Pittsburg, CA) tallied a game high 20 points to lead the Friars and Katie Smrcka-Duffy led the Hoyas with 18 points, six assists and four steals.
Down the entire second half of the game, the Friars came within one point in the final minute as sophomore Jen Gombotz (Southington, CT) stole a Hoya pass and dished it off to freshman Catrina Hawley Stewart (West Haven, CT) as she cut the lead to 59-57.
Georgetown's Leslie Walker connected on a three-pointer with :52 seconds remaining before they traded free throws in the final seconds down the stretch.
The Friars shot 36% from the field and held the Hoyas to only 34%. The Friars were forced with 17 turnovers as Georgetown held the rebound edge, 46-42.
Providence falls to 3-19 overall while Georgetown improves to 14-8.
