PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Senior guard Meghan Hinds netted a team-high 19 points en route to her 1,000th career point as Providence College (9-9, 4-4 BIG EAST) fell to St. John's University (7-12, 2-7 BIG EAST) at Alumni Hall Saturday afternoon.
Hinds need just 11 points to reach the 1,000-point plateau and had nine going into the halftime break. Just six seconds into the second half, she netted a trey from the left corner to become the 21st player in school history to accomplish the feat.
St. John's junior Latasha Thompson lit up the hardwood, shooting 11-of 21 from the floor, including four three-pointers, and 5-of-8 from the free throw line for a career-high 31 points. Sophomore Aiysha Johns also helped out the Red Storm offense, recording a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Ana Pericic rounded out the top scorers for St. John's with 11 points.
Hinds led the Friars with her 19 points and 12 boards for her second double-double this season. Junior Dani Trippany led all reserves with her 13 points and five rebounds for Providence.
