The Friars came out strong from the opening tip off. Sophomore Abdul Mills (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also had a strong first half for the Friars, recording nine points. Rick Mickens led the USDBL with 12 first-half points and three rebounds.
Providence continued to pressure the USDBL in the second half led by freshman Maris Laksa (Ventspils, Latvia) who was impressive, scoring 13 points over the final 20 minutes of play. The Friars continued to build on their lead in the second half. Senior Karim Shabazz (Far Rockaway, N.Y.) scored two of his 10 points on a 12-foot jump shot with 12:46 remaining in the game to give the Friars a 25-point lead at 68-43. The PC offense looked sharp all the way to the final buzzer as sophomore Romuald Augustin (Montreal, Quebec) hit a three pointer with 47 seconds left and Laksa finished off a reverse layup with 14 seconds remaining in the game to give PC its largest lead of the game at 32 points (94-62).
Maxey and Shabazz both recorded double-doubles for the Friars. In addition to his 27 points, Maxey also registered 10 rebounds. Shabazz finished the game with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
