Providence Falls to Miami, 71-66

Providence, R.I.-Senior guard Gina Graziani hit two free throws with eight seconds remaining to give Miami (10-12, 4-7 BIG EAST) a 71-66 win over Providence (9-12, 4-8 BIG EAST) this afternoon at Alumni Hall.
The Hurricanes enjoyed a 36-35 lead at the half, but then saw 11 lead changes in the second half as the Friars fought back. Providence tied the game at 39 apiece as junior center Monika Roberts netted two free throws at the 18:06 mark. PC again took the lead with 16 minutes remaining as sophomore Chrissy Vozab knocked in a three-point attempt.
There were five more lead changes over the next five minutes, but then Miami went on a 7-2 run over a three-minute span. But the Friars would not give up, as junior Jen Gombotz scored her own three pointer to put her squad down by one (55-56, 7:03). Fellow junior Dani Trippany then put PC up by one with her layup with 5:45 left in the game.
After another 3-pointer from Graziani, Trippany gave the Friars their final edge of the game, tying the game at 59 with just under five minutes remaining in the contest. The Hurricanes then went on an 8-5 run, with junior guard Dalia Clarke netting six points in the run, to put Miami up, 67-63, with less than a minute left in the game.
PC's senior Farrah Thomas then hit a 3-point bomb from the right corner with 18 seconds remaining to put the Friars down by one again (66-67). But Miami hit four out of eight attempts from the foul line to seal the victory.
Miami was led by junior center Camilla Osth, who recorded a double-double of 24 points and 12 rebounds despite playing the majority of the second half with four fouls. Graziani finished the night with 22 points and four assists for the Hurricanes.
Trippany netted a game-high 17 points for Providence to lead all reserves. Gombotz paced the Friars with her fourth double-double of the season of 13 points and 12 boards, while Roberts posted her fifth this season as she recorded 12 points and 11 caroms for PC.
