Women's Basketball Signs Elaine McCants

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team received a National Letter of Intent from point guard Elaine McCants of Boston, Massachusetts.
McCants will enter Providence College as the fifth-best point guard in the nation, in the class of 2002, according to the All-Star Girls' Report. In that same publication, McCants was listed as the 13th-best senior overall.
McCants averaged 19.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 12.2 assists and 3.9 steals at Jerimiah E. Burke High School in Dorchester, Mass., and currently attends Brookline High School. McCants led her high school team to one Massachusetts High School State Championship, and guided her AAU team to three Massachusetts AAU State Championships. She is a two-time USA Today Massachusetts Honorable Mention, Boston Herald All-Scholastic (All-State), Boston City All-Star, Hoffman High School All-Star and Hoop Mountain/School Sports Roundball Classic All-Star selection. McCants also has been named a USA Today Massachusetts Preseason Player to Watch, Boston Herald All-Scholastic (All-State) Dream Team and Boston Globe All-Scholastic selection.
McCants, who is capable of playing at off-guard as well as at the point, is the daughter of Darrell McCants and Eileen Melville.
