Women's Swimming Defeats Fairfield, 153-90

FAIRFIELD, CONN. -- The Providence College men's and women's swimming teams opened their 2001-02 seasons on Saturday, November 3 at Fairfield University. The PC women defeated Fairfield, 153-90, while the PC men were defeated, 128-90.
The PC women had double-event winners in junior Kate Fuller (Staten Island, N.Y.) and sophomore Kathryn Donovan (Simi Valley, Calif.). Fuller won the 200 meter IM (2:34.19) and the 200 meter Breaststroke (2:49.61) while Donovan won the 200 meter Freestyle (2:12.83) and the 100 meter free (1:03.35).
Other event winners for the Friars were: sophomore Bridget McKenna (Narragansett, R.I.), who won the 800 meter free in 9:54.97, senior Lee Barnum (Hyde Park, N.Y.), who won the 200 meter butterfly in 2:34.08, and senior Allison Buckley (Chelmsford, Mass.), who won the 400 meter free in 4:42.84. Freshman Jamie Moden-Cohen won the one meter diving event, garnering a 201.15 score, her best score ever by 50 points.
The Providence College women's swimming and diving team compete next on Wednesday, November 7 when they host Sacred Heart.
