EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Providence College women's basketball team was defeated by Michigan State University, 64-47, on Friday night in East Lansing, Michigan.
Providence was led by freshman forward/center Jessica Simmonds (South Orange, N.J.). Simmonds registered a team-high 13 points and eight rebounds, as she was the only Friar to score in double-figures. Nine of her 13 points came in the second half of play.
Michigan State got offensive support from freshman center Kelli Roehrig, who tallied a game and career-high 24 points. She also added seven rebounds in the winning effort. Forward Syreeta Bromfield netted 17 points and recorded a game-high five steals for the Spartans.
Providence falls to 6-4 overall on the season, while Michigan State improves to 9-1. The Friars will resume action at the Lady Griz Holiday Classic in Missoula, Mont. on December 28 and 29. PC will tip off against Montana in the first round game on the 28th (10:00 p.m. EST), and will play either Saint Louis or Idaho on the 29th at 8:00 or 10:00 p.m. EST.
