HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Albert Mouring scored 19 points and Connecticut outscored Providence 29-9 over the last 12 minutes Tuesday and beat the Friars 83-68.

Mouring scored 12 points during the run, helping UConn overcome a five-point deficit.

The win was the second in a row for Connecticut (15-7, 4-5) and snapped a five-game win streak for the Friars (16-6, 7-3).

UConn led the entire first half, but Providence took a 53-51 lead on a three-point goal by Romuald Augustin and extended the margin to 59-54 with 12:24 left on two free throws by Erin Maxey.

UConn scored the next 10 points, as Mouring hit two baskets and Justin Brown, Johnny Selive and Caron Butler one apiece to make it 64-59 with 9:31 to play.

Providence got within three at 66-63, but a three-point play by Butler, two free throws by Souleymane Wane and a basket by Edmund Saunders put the Huskies out of reach.

Mouring led four UConn players in double figures. Butler had 14 points, Tony Robertson 13 and Selive added 11.

Augustin, who kept Providence in the game early with 11 points in the first eight minutes, led all scorers with 22. Karim Shabazz added 12 and John Linehan had 10.

UConn outrebounded Providence 44-30, led by Wane who pulled down nine.
