PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Tony Robertson scored 22 points, including four 3-pointers, in his return to Rhode Island to lead Connecticut to a 69-62 win over Providence Wednesday night.

Connecticut used the outside shooting of Robertson (7-9 from the field) and the inside muscle of Caron Butler, with 21 points, to run its record in the Big East to 5-0. The Huskies are 11-3 overall.

Ryan Gomes had 17 points for Providence, which dropped to 1-3 in the Big East and 10-8 on the season.

Abdul Mills added 15 points for the Friars, all coming in the first half.

Connecticut took a 8-2 lead on a 3-pointer by Robertson, from East Providence who attended St. Andrews in nearby Barrington. Robertson's 22 points tied a career-high.

Providence guards John Linehan and Mills kept the Friars close, combining for 13 of the team's first 15 points.

The Huskies built a 30-24 halftime lead as Butler and Robertson went inside-outside with 13 points apiece.

Connecticut extended its lead to as many as 11 points before the Friars cut it to three on a Christopher Anrin 3-pointer with about 12 minutes left.

A Gomes free throw with 1:14 left drew Providence to 63-58, but Emeka Okafor tipped in a missed free throw by Taliek Brown to push Connecticut's advantage to eight.

The Friars were victimized by poor shooting, finishing at 29 percent for the game. Connecticut shot 52 percent.
