University of Connecticut Huskies (11-7/5-0): The Huskies come to Hendricken Field for a BIG EAST matchup with the Friars on Saturday, November 2. UConn will look to finish its BIG EAST schedule with an undefeated, 6-0, record. The Huskies have lost just two of their last 12 games. They have been led this season by sophomore forward Lauren Henderson (Avondale Harare, Zimbabwe) and senior forward Kelly Cochrane (Scarsdale, N.Y.). Henderson leads UConn and the BIG EAST in both goals (20) and points (43), while Cochrane is the team and BIG EAST leader in assists (17). Junior Maureen Butler (Red Hook, N.Y.) has started all 18 games in goal for UConn this season. She is currently giving up an average of 1.52 goals per game, has a .725 save percentage, and has recorded five shutouts. Husky Head Coach Nancy Stevens is in her 13th season and has a 10-5-1 record versus the Friars. UConn and Providence have met 27 times with the Huskies owning a 16-8-3 record.
Providence College Friars (8-11/1-3): The Friar field hockey team plays its final home game of the season on November 2 as the Friars will look to defeat Connecticut for the first time since a 3-2 victory in 1997. Providence will honor seniors Kimberly Bradbury (Mahopac, N.Y.), Lyndsey Brooks (New Fairfield, Conn.), Jennifer Chin (Norwood, Mass.), Courtney Dow (Hampstead, N.H.), Katie Kelly (Weston, Mass.), Kara Lukens (Pennsburg, Pa.), and Kelly Piwinski (Seabrook, N.H.) during a pre-game ceremony. These seven seniors, who have contributed 51 of the 88 total points scored by the Friars this season, are led by forward Chin, and midfielders Lukens and Brooks. Chin leads all Friars with 23 points, nine goals, and five assists. Lukens and Brooks are second among the seniors in points with nine each. Midfielders Dow and Piwinski have also supplied offense for the Friars this season as they have six and two points, respectively. Starting in all 19 games this season and providing support in the defensive backfield have been backs Bradbury and Kelly. As a whole, this years' seniors have won 33 games, which is the most by a senior class since the 1999 graduating class (34). Friar Head Coach Diane Madl concludes her first year at Providence having won the most games by a first-year Providence field hockey coach since Kate Denning won 13 in 1979.
