Four Friar Field Hockey Players Earn BIG EAST Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College seniors Jennifer Chin (Norwood, Mass.) and Kara Lukens (Pennsburg, Pa.) were selected to the All-BIG EAST First Team for field hockey at the annual BIG EAST Championship banquet on Thursday, November 7. Also receiving honors for the Friars were senior Lyndsey Brooks (New Fairfield, Conn.) and junior Stefanie Suehnholz (Flemington, N.J.), who were named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.

Chin led the Friars in scoring this season and finished fifth in the BIG EAST Conference in overall scoring. She registered 23 points on nine goals and five assists. During the season, she earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors twice (9/9/02, 10/14/02) and also was selected as the ECAC Co-Player of the Week on October 15. She finishes her career at PC tied for 15th all-time in career scoring (53 points), and is ranked 10th all-time in career goals (23). Chin is a native of Norwood, Massachusetts and is the daughter of Carol and Walton Chin.

Lukens, the Friars' starting sweeper, scored a career-high four goals and added one assist for nine points during the 2002 season. She anchored PC's defense, and finished the year tied for first on the team with two defensive saves. Lukens finished her career at Providence with 12 points on five goals and two assists. In 2001, Lukens earned All-BIG EAST Second-Team honors and was named a STX/NFHCA Second-Team Regional All-American. Lukens is a native of Pennsburg, Pennsylvania and is the daughter of Allen and Carolyn Lukens.

Brooks, the team's starting center midfielder, has been named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team for the second straight year. She finished tied for third among her Friar teammates in scoring with nine points on three goals and three assists. Brooks finished her career at Providence with 14 points on five goals and four assists. She is a native of New Fairfield, Connecticut and is the daughter of Kenneth and Carol Brooks.

Suehnholz, a junior defender, earned BIG EAST honors for the second time in her career. During her freshman year in 2001, she was selected to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team. This season, Suehnholz registered a career-high six points on two goals and two assists, and recorded one defensive save. After three seasons with the Friars, she has recorded 21 career points on seven goals and seven assists. Suehnholz is a native of Flemington, N.J. and is the daughter of Raymond and Elaine Suehnholz.

The Providence College field hockey team completed the 2002 season with an 8-12 overall record and a 1-4 mark in the BIG EAST Conference.
