University at Albany Great Danes (1-4) - The Great Danes come to Hendricken Field with a four-game losing streak after a season-opening victory against St. Francis, Pa., 3-1, on August 31. Albany's statistical leader is sophomore forward Amber Morris (Royersford, Pa.). She leads the Great Danes with two goals and four points. Goalkeeper Megan Akstin (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) has been under fire while playing all 350 minutes for the Great Danes. The sophomore has stopped 62 shots and has compiled a .827 save percentage. Deborah Fiore enters her eighth season as the Albany head coach and her 14th season overall. The Great Danes have a 26-24 mark in three seasons at the Division I level under her direction.
Providence College Friars (4-4) - The Friars open their home schedule on Friday, September 20 against the Great Danes of Albany. PC is led by senior forward Jennifer Chin (Norwood, Mass.) who was named BIG EAST Conference Offensive Player of the Week, for the week ending Sunday, September 8. She is the team leader in shots (22), goals (three), assists (three), and points (nine). Her nine points is good for third among BIG EAST players. Junior forward Kelly Romanowicz (Shrewsbury, Mass.) ranks second on the team in scoring with five points on two goals and one assist. Junior Meaghan Moran (Framingham, Mass.). has started all eight games for the Friars in goal. Moran's 1.42 goals against average ranks second among BIG EAST goalkeepers. Friar Head Coach Diane Madl is in her first year with PC after serving as an assistant coach at Maine for the past nine seasons. In 2001, Providence defeated the Great Danes 4-1 at the Husky Classic in Storrs, Conn. PC leads the all-time series with Albany, 1-0.
