NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The Providence College women's swimming and diving team (2-3 overall) split a tri-meet at Central Connecticut State University Saturday evening. The Friars posted a 62-49 victory over C.W. Post, but were defeated by host CCSU, 64-47.

The Friars swept the diving events as senior Jamie Modon-Cohen (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) finished first in the one meter dive with a score of 212.30. Junior teammate Abby Long (Boylston, Mass.) placed second in the event with a score of 174.75. In the three-meter dive, Modon-Cohen placed first with a score of 194.40, while Long was second with a 148.60 showing.

In the 100 yard butterfly, sophomores Katelyn Flynn (Sinking Spring, Pa.) and Carolyn Rider (Freehold, N.J.) finished second and third overall. Flynn was 0.08 seconds behind the winner with a time of 1:01.80, while Rider turned in a 1:03.46 performance. Rider also placed second in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.72, while Flynn placed second in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:31.15.

Freshman Jessica McCarthy (Woodstock, N.Y.) placed second overall in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:32.27. That finished gave Providence quality points in defeating C.W. Post who placed swimmers fifth and sixth, respectively. McCarthy also placed third overall in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:42.20.

Providence women's swimming & diving returns to action on Friday, Nov. 19 against Holy Cross. The home meet is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m.
