PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's swimming and diving team (3-4 overall) defeated Holy Cross by the score of 121-119 Saturday evening at PC's Taylor Natatorium. Additionally, the Providence men's swimming and diving team (1-5 overall) posted its first win of the season with a 127-101 victory over the Crusaders.

The men's team won their first event of the meet by cruising though the 400 meter medley relay with a 4:22.17 victory. Sophomores Andrew Zockoff (Dover, Mass.) and Tom McLoughlin (Leonardo, N.J.) teamed with juniors Seth Brockman (Kenner, La.) and Nick Taylor (Devonshire, Bermuda) for the win. Brockman also won the 200 meter individual medley with a time of 2:23.80, and the 200 meter backstroke with a time of 2:26.70.

Senior Matthew Raske (New Rochelle, N.Y.) won the 800 meter freestyle with a time of 9:41.44, while junior Frank LaMonaca (Cheshire, Conn.) won the 200 meter freestyle with a time of 2:08.44. Raske was also narrowly edged in the 400 meter freestyle as he finished second with a time of 4:39.79, 0.44 seconds behind the leader.

Freshman Ryan Barnicle (Newington, Conn.) won two events including the 50 meter freestyle with a time of 26.09, and the 100 meter freestyle with a time of 57.27. LaMonaca finished right behind him in the 100 meter freestyle with a second-place time of 57.31.

Providence men's swimming & diving returns to action on Friday, Dec. 3 at Rhode Island. The Friars will compete in URI's Harold Anderson Invitational beginning at 5:00 p.m. The meet will begin Day Two on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 10:30 a.m.
