PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to West Virginia, 88-53, in BIG EAST Conference action on Wednesday, February 4 in Providence, R.I. West Virginia improves to 16-5 overall and 7-2 in the BIG EAST, while Providence falls to 4-15 overall and 0-8 in the conference.

Sherell Sowho and Kate Bulger combined to score 49 of West Virginia's 88 points in the victory. Sowho netted 28 points, while Bulger contributed 21. Meg Bulger posted a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Yolanda Paiged handed out a game-high 12 assists and added four points and four rebounds.

PC's Gayle Nwafili (Maplewood, N.J.) recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Shauna Snyder (Albuquerque, N.M.) netted a career-high 10 points off the bench. Seniors Brooke Freeburg (Waterford, Pa.) and Kristin Quinn (Sewell, N.J.) contributed seven points each in the Friar effort.

West Virginia led by just nine points (32-23) at halftime, but exploded on offense in the second half to outscore Providence, 56-30, en route to the 35-point victory (88-53). The Mountaineers also held the advantage on the boards against Providence during the game, 45-26.

Providence College (4-15, 0-8 BIG EAST) will travel to Jamaica, N.Y. to take on St. John's in BIG EAST Conference action on Sunday, February 8 at 2:00 p.m.
