CORAL GABLES, FLA. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Miami, 81-62, in BIG EAST Conference action on Tuesday, March 2 in Coral Gables, Fla. The Friars conclude their season with a 4-23 overall record and an 0-16 mark in the BIG EAST. Miami improves to 22-5 overall with the victory and 11-5 in the BIG EAST.

Providence's Gayle Nwafili (Maplewood, N.J.) led all scorers with 25 points and added a team-high seven rebounds. Kristin Quinn (Sewell, N.J.) netted 12 points in the effort. Miami was led by Tamara James and Chanivia Broussard who scored 23 points and 19 points, respectively. Shaquana Wilkins registered a double-double in the win with 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

Miami held a two-point advantage (8-6) over the first five minutes of action. From that point, the Hurricanes exploded on a 29-10 scoring run and held their largest lead of the first half (16 points), 37-21, with 2:50 remaining on the clock. Miami held a 40-25 lead at the halftime break. James and Broussard led the Hurricanes with 10 points apiece in the opening 20 minutes. Nwafili led the Friars with eight points.

The Friars came out on fire in the second half and cut the Hurricane lead to six (49-43) during the first 5:41 of play with a 18-9 scoring run. The Hurricanes were forced to call a time-out and went on a 20-6 scoring run to push their lead to 20 points (69-49) with 7:44 remaining in the game. Miami went on to earn a 19-point victory, 81-62.

Providence College finishes the 2003-04 season with a 4-23 overall record and a 0-16 mark in the BIG EAST Conference.
