HELLO FROM FRIARTOWN!
Our season ended on the road at the University of Miami. A losing season is never easy but, as a staff and as a team, we have much we can learn from the experiences of the season. Our 2003-04 schedule played out as the 37th toughest schedule in the country - a little too tough for this stage of our building process! We are already into our post-season skill development workouts and strength training/agility training. The players are working extremely hard and are focused on improvement.
WOW - the Big East Conference had 8 teams advance to the NCAA Tournament and 1 team advance to the WNIT. No other conference in the country had 8 teams advance - the SEC and the BIG 12 Conference both had 7 teams advance. On an interesting side note two future Big East teams also were in the NCAA Tournament: DePaul and Marquette; and, Louisville advanced to the WNIT. So, the Big East stays tough even as the conference loses Miami and Virginia Tech next year and Boston College after the 04-05 season.
The spring national signing period begins April 14th and while we cannot go into any detail on possible signings of future FRIARS in this late period, we can tell you that we hope to sign four players in the spring signing period. Stay tuned and we will update this site after the spring signing period ends in May.
We have 2 camps this summer - a Fundamental Skills Camp and a Day Camp. Our players will be working both camps along with some of the best high school coaches in the area. We place a high premium on two things at our camps 1) teaching the game 2) having fun! A camp application can be downloaded from the www.friars.com web-site -- click on women's basketball and then click on camp information. BE PATIENT, as the camp brochure will take a few minutes to download. You can also call Mary Ellen in our office at 401-865-2529. She will mail you an application and answer any questions you have about the camps.
Did you hear that former FRAIR Tracy Lis, who wore the Providence uniform from 1988-92, was named to the Big East Silver Anniversary Women's Basketball Team? Tracy is the all-time leading scorer in women's basketball at Providence College, ranks 3rd all time in Big East career scoring and was a 2-time All-Big East First Team selection. Congratulations Tracy!
THANKS to all of you FRIAR fans who supported the team in 2003-04. We saw you in the stands and heard you applaud the efforts of the players. Stay tuned!
GO FRIARS...
