Swimming and Diving Swept At Maine

ORONO, Maine - The Providence College women's swimming and diving team won five events but lost at Maine, 177-119, in a swim meet held Sunday afternoon at Wallace Pool. The PC men's swimming and diving team won four events, but also lost to the Black Bears, 170-123.
Sophomore Annie Nemeth (Kendall, N.Y.) won a pair of events including the 100-yard breaststroke. Her first-place time of 1:10.43 narrowly edged out the second-place finisher by 0.10 seconds. Nemeth also won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:27.18, and placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.79. Sophomore Katelyn Flynn (Sinking Spring, Pa.) won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:18.72. She also placed second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.74, and second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:21.58. Sophomore Carolyn Rider (Freehold, N.J.) won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:19.47. The women's 400-yard freestyle relay team also posted an impressive victory with a 3:57.95 showing. The relay consisted of Rider, junior Lori Brezinsky (Bethleham, Pa.), senior Alyssa Meleski (Southington, Conn.) and freshman Jessica McCarthy (Woodstock, N.Y.).
Providence women's swimming & diving team returns to action at home against UMass-Dartmouth this Saturday, January 22, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
