PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Colgate men's hockey team (10-3-4) came back from a 3-0 second period deficit to tie Brown (2-9-1), 3-3, on Thursday, December 22 in the consolation game of the Providence College Holiday Classic at Schneider Arena.
The Bears outshot the Raiders, 10-6, in the first period and they took a 1-0 lead at the 17:44 when Jeff Prough (Farmington Hill, Mich.) lifted a backhander from the right face off circle that beat Colgate goalie Mark Dekanich (N. Vancouver, B.C.).
Brown scored two more goals early in the second period to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Junior Sean Dersch (Edmonton, Alberta) pounced on his rebound right in front and scored his first goal of the season at 8:58. The Bears, who fell victim to a late first period goal in yesterday's loss to Sacred Heart, netted a goal with just seven seconds remaining in the second period. Sophomore Sean Hurley (Rutland, Vt.) scored on the power for his third tally of the season.
However, the Raiders erupted for three goals in a span of 6:00 in the third period to tie the game. Senior Eric Main (Atikokan, Ontario) began the comeback at 6:27 as he skated into the Brown zone and fired a high wrist shot past Brown goalie Adam D'Alba (Glencoe, Ill.). Sophomore Tyler Burton (Langley, B.C.) made the score 3-2 at 7:08 as he scored off a rebound in front. The Raiders tied the game at 12:27 as senior Ryan Smyth (Clarence Creek, Ontario) converted a pass from Burton.
D'Alba finished with 24 saves for the Bears, while Dekanich stopped 26 shots. The tie ended Brown's seven-game losing skid against its ECACHL foe Colgate.
