Swimming & Diving Announces Team Awards and '05 Captains

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College swimming and diving program announced its 2004-05 award winners and team captains at the recent team banquet. Juniors Lori Brezinsky (Bethleham, Pa.) and Abby Long (Boylston, Mass.) will serve as senior captains for the women's team during the 2005-06 season. On the men's side, juniors Frank LaMonaca (Cheshire, Conn.), Nick Taylor (Devonshire, Bermuda) and Seth Brockman (Kenner, La.) will serve as senior captains for the men's team next year. Taylor was also named the men's winner of the David Hardy Coaches' Award.
Additionally, LaMonaca earned the Horace Bowden Award as the men's team MVP, while sophomore Annie Nemeth (Pittsburgh, Pa.) earned the Cindi Luciani Award as the women's team MVP. Sophomore Tom McLaughlin (Leonardo, N.J.) was named the men's most improved male athlete, while Long earned the women's tribute.
Senior Katy Bednar (Marblehead, Mass.) took home the David Hardy Coaches' Award on the women's side, while classmate Jamie Modon-Cohen (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) won the Sears Diving Award for the second consecutive season.
Finally, freshman Ryan Barnicle (Newington, Conn.), Amy Ryan (East Granby, Conn.), Danielle Matook (Seekonk, Mass.) and Jessica McCarthy (Woodstock, N.Y.) each received the John O'Neill Award given to the most outstanding freshman.
