PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (2-6): The Providence College field hockey team hosts 18th-ranked Boston College on Wednesday, September 21 at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. The Friars enter Wednesday's game with a 2-6 overall record. Providence has been defeated in each of its last two games by a goal. Both games needed overtime, including the Friars' contest with Dartmouth that ended in penalty strokes.
Sophomore Abby Maguire (Southbury, Conn.) leads the Friars in scoring through seven games with 14 points on six goals and two assists. Junior Emily Ewens (Vancouver, B.C.) is second on the team in scoring with eight points on four goals. She has tallied a goal in each of PC's last two games.
Freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Scavelli (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) has played 578 minutes in the cage for PC. She has a 0.716 save percentage and a 2.78 goals against average through the first eight games.
BOSTON COLLEGE (4-2): Boston College enters Wednesday's game with a 4-2 record. The Eagles have made the transition from the BIG EAST Conference to the ACC in 2005. BC fell to Maryland, 3-0, in its first-ever ACC match-up on September 17. Prior to the loss against Maryland, Boston College earned three-consecutive victories against Kent State (3-2), Sacred Heart (10-2) and Hofstra (4-0).
Kristen Madden leads the Eagle offense with 17 points on seven goals and three assists. Bronwen Kelly ranks second among her teammates in scoring with nine points on two goals and five assists.
Jillian Savoy has played the majority of minutes in the cage for Boston College. Savoy has a 1.86 goals against average and a 0.750 save percentage on the year.
The last time the two teams met was exactly one year ago on September 21, 2004 on the campus of Bentley College in Waltham, Mass. The two teams played to a 1-1 tie through the first half, but the Eagles went on to score four unanswered goals in the second half to win the game, 5-1. The last time the two teams met in Providence, R.I., Boston College earned a 2-0 victory. Wednesday's game will be the first meeting between the two teams at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
