The Providence College field hockey team hosts Harvard University on Wednesday, September 28 at 7:00 p.m. The game will be played at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. and marks the final game under the lights for the Friars on their home field.
The Friars enter Wednesday's game with a 3-8 overall record and are coming off a 3-1 victory over Colgate on Sunday, September 25. Four Friars have reached double figures in scoring this season, led by sophomore Abby Maguire (Southbury, Conn.). Maguire has a team-best 16 points on seven goals and two assists. Junior Melissa McGow (Branford, Conn.) is second among her teammates with 14 points on three goals and eight assists. Junior Emily Ewens (Vancouver, B.C.) has recorded six goals for 12 points, while senior Kati Lary (Canaan, N.H.) has notched 10 points on four goals and two assists. Seven other Friars have cracked the scoring column this season through 11 games. Freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Scavelli (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) has played the majority of minutes for PC in the cage. She has a 2.92 goals against average and a 0.673 save percentage.
Harvard enter's Wednesday's game with a 5-2 overall record. The Crimson started the season with four-consecutive victories, but have dropped two of their last three games, including a 1-0 loss to Brown in their most recent game on September 24. Jen McDavitt leads Harvard in scoring through the first seven games with six points on two goals and two assists. Jane Sackovich and Beverlie Ting have scored five points and four points, respectively. Kelly Knoche has been the Crimson's primary goalkeeper this season. She owns four shut-out victories, a 0.29 goals against average and a 0.931 save percentage. Harvard has allowed just two goals so far this season. In the two games Harvard has been scored upon, they have been defeated.
The Crimson will be the fourth team Providence has faced this season that has been ranked in the top-25 nationally at some point during the season. Last year, the Friars were defeated by Harvard, 5-1, on September 16 at Jordan Field in Cambridge, Mass. The last time the Friars defeated Harvard was during the 1996 season. PC earned a 3-1 victory that year in Providence, R.I.
