PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball program has finalized its schedule for the 2007-08 season. Of PC's 29 regular-season games, five will be televised by various networks, including Cox Sports Television, CSTV and BIG EAST TV (BETV). Providence's five televised games are against Michigan State on December 20 (Cox Sports Television), Marquette on January 5 (BETV/Cox Sports Television), Connecticut on February 2 (Cox Sports Television), Villanova on February 12 (CSTV) and Syracuse on February 19 (Cox Sports Television). This year's schedule marks unprecedented television coverage for the Friar women's basketball program as it looks to make a run toward the BIG EAST Women's Basketball Championship.
The Friars open the season on November 9 against cross-city rival Brown at 7:30 p.m. The game will be played on Brown's campus at the Pizzitola Sports Center in Providence, R.I. The Friars face Hartford in their 2007-08 home opener on November 13 at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m. PC follows with home games against Iona (November 17, 2:00 p.m.) and Manhattan (November 20, 7:00 p.m.). On November 23 and November 25, the Friars will take part in the Florida International Thanksgiving Tournament in Miami, Fla. In the first game, PC takes on FIU at 5:30 p.m. on the 25th. PC will face either Illinois or South Carolina on the 25th in the consolation or championship game at Noon or 2:00 p.m. The Friars remain on the road for games against Fordham on November 28 (7:00 p.m.), Rhode Island on December 1 (3:30 p.m.) and Harvard on December 5 (7:00 p.m.).
Providence returns home to Alumni Hall's Mullaney Gymnasium on December 8 vs. Central Connecticut at 2:00 p.m. It marks the first of a four-game homestand for PC. The Friars follow with Michigan State on December 20 at Noon (Cox Sports Television), New Hampshire on December 28 at 7:00 p.m. and Massachusetts on December 31 at 4:30 p.m.
The Friars open the BIG EAST Conference schedule in Milwaukee, Wis. against Marquette on January 5 at 2:00 p.m. (BETV/Cox Sports Television). Providence's BIG EAST home opener is scheduled for January 12 against DePaul and will begin at 1:00 p.m. in Providence, R.I. On January 15 and January 19, Providence will take to the road once again to face BIG EAST foes USF (7:00 p.m.) and Pittsburgh (2:00 p.m.), respectively. PC returns to back-to-back home games against Villanova on January 22 (7:00 p.m.) and Seton Hall on January 26 (2:00 p.m.). The Friars close out the month with a match-up at Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. at 7:00 p.m. on January 30.
Providence takes the short trip to Storrs, Conn. on February 2 to face Connecticut at 7:00 p.m. (Cox Sports Television). The Friars face West Virginia in Providence, R.I. on February 9 at 2:00 p.m., and head back out on the road to play Villanova on February 12 in Villanova, Pa. at 8:00 p.m. (CSTV).
The Friars play three-straight home games beginning on February 16 against St. John's at Noon. On February 19, Providence hosts Syracuse (7:00 p.m., Cox Sports Television), and on February 23 Providence finishes the homestand with 2007 NCAA Finalist Rutgers at 2:00 p.m.
PC travels to Louisville, Ky. on February 26 to take on Louisville at 7:00 p.m., and will finish its road schedule with a match-up against Georgetown in Washington, D.C. on March 1 at 3:00 p.m. The Friars conclude the regular-season schedule at home against Cincinnati on March 3 at 7:00 p.m.
The BIG EAST Women's Basketball Championship is slated for March 8 and will run through the Championship Game on March 11. The top-12 teams in the 16-team league will participate in the tournament, which is held at the Hartford Civic Center in Hartford, Conn. The winner of the BIG EAST Championship earns an automatic berth to the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship.
