SYRACUSE, N..Y. - Five Providence College field hockey players earned All-BIG EAST honors at the league's annual championship banquet on Friday, November 2. The banquet was held at the Double Tree Hotel in Syracuse, N.Y. Sophomore forward Nellie Poulin (Oakland, Maine), sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain (Branford, Conn.) and senior forward Abby Maguire (Southbury, Conn.) were selected to the All-BIG EAST First Team. Junior midfielder/defender Jessica Lane (South Windsor, Conn.) and senior defender Michalagh Stoddard (Norwood, Mass.) were honored on the Second Team. In addition to the All-BIG EAST selections, Chamberlain was tabbed Goalkeeper of the Year.

Chamberlain, who earned Third-Team All-America recognition as a freshman in 2006, earns BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year honors for the second-straight season. She has played 1,320 minutes in the cage this year and owns a 1.33 goals against average and 0.777 save percentage. She has allowed 25 goals and has registered 87 saves. Four of her 13 victories on the year are shutouts, while she has played a hand in two additional shut-out victories for her team. In her two seasons with the Friars, Chamberlain has a 29-11 record (8-3 BIG EAST), including 11 shutouts. Additionally, she has registered a 1.29 goals against average and a 0.789 save percentage in 2,720 career minutes of action.

Poulin earns post-season honors for the first time in her career as a member of the First Team. She enters the conference tournament ranked third among her teammates in scoring with 21 points on a team-high nine goals and three assists. Two of her nine goals have been game winners. In BIG EAST regular-season action, Poulin has registered two goals and two assists for six points.

Maguire, a two-time All-BIG EAST Second-Team selection, caps off her career as a member of the First Team in 2007. She owns 14 points on six goals and two assists. Maguire has two game-winning goals. She is tied for second on the roster in scoring during BIG EAST regular-season action with eight points on four goals. Prior to the start of the 2007 season, Maguire was selected to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.

Lane, a midfielder/defender, lands on the All-BIG EAST Second Team, marking the first post-season honors of her career. She has had a break-out season in 2007 and owns 20 points on one goal and a team-high 18 assists. Her 20 points and 18 assists mark personal single-season career highs. Additionally, she is one assist shy of tying the single-season record at PC, which is held by two-time All-American Paula Wagoner. Wagoner notched 19 assists in 1997. Lane's lone goal on the year was the game winner in a 2-1 league victory over Rutgers on October 19. She also leads the Friars in scoring this season during BIG EAST regular-season action with 11 points on one goal and nine assists.

Stoddard, who earned Preseason All-BIG EAST honors prior to the start of the season and First-Team recognition a year ago, was named to the Second-Team. Not only is Stoddard one of the top defenders in the league, she has proven herself to be equally as dangerous on the offensive side of the field as PC's primary hitter on corners. Through 20 games, Stoddard leads the Friars in scoring with 23 points oon eight goals and seven assists. She is the team leader in game-winning goals, with three - two of which came against BIG EAST opponents. Eight of her 23 points were scored during BIG EAST regular-season action.

The Friars (13-7) enter the BIG EAST Championship as the No. 3 seed and will face No. 2 seed Louisville in the semifinal round on November 3 at 11:00 a.m. in Syracuse, N.Y. Top-seeded Connecticut and No. 4 Syracuse will square-off in the second semifinal at 1:00 p.m. The winner of each game will advance to the BIG EAST Championship game at Noon on November 4. All games in the tournament are scheduled to be held at J.S. Coyne Field on the campus of Syracuse University. The 2007 BIG EAST Champion will earn the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Championship.
