PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team defeated Harvard, 70-58, in non-conference action on December 6, 2008 at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. Junior Emily Cournoyer (North Attleboro, Mass.) posted the second double-double of her collegiate career with 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Friars. Sophomore Mi-Khida Hankins (Baltimore, Md.) added a game-high 18 points in the win as the Friars improve to 4-4 overall.

Harvard held the lead the majority of the first half and led by as many as eight points (32-24) with 4:45 on the clock. From that point, the Crimson offense fell silent as the Friars rattled off nine unanswered points to take a 33-32 lead at halftime.

Providence would not relinquish its lead in the second half, and pushed out to a 45-35 advantage with 12:44 left in the game. Harvard would get within seven (51-44) at the 8:16 mark, but were unable to mount a serious threat down the stretch. Providence took its largest lead of the game (64-50) with 4:09 remaining on the clock, en route to the 12 point victory.

Senior Chelsea Marandola (Johnston, R.I.) and junior Brittany Dorsey (Detroit, Mich.) joined Cournoyer and Hankins in double figures with 15 and 12 points, respectively. Senior Catherine Bove (Cincinnati, Ohio) dished a season-high five assists, while Dorsey handed out four dimes.

For Harvard, Emma Markley and Katie Rollins each recorded double-doubles. Markley notched 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Rollins added 16 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

The Friars held a 46-44 advantage in rebounding on the day. Providence also hit all 12 of its free-throw attempts on the day, including an 8-8 performance in the first half.

The Friars will return to action on December 16 against Buffalo at 7:00 p.m. The game will be played at Alumni Arena in Buffalo, N.Y.
