PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College senior field hockey player Nellie Poulin (Oakland, Maine) earned 2009 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I Second-Team All-America honors. The announcement was made by the NFHCA on Monday, November 23. It marks the second-straight year that Poulin has earned All-America status. In 2008, she earned Third-Team All-America accolades.

Poulin is one of nine players to earn All-America honors in the 34-year history of the Providence field hockey program. She becomes just the fourth player to earn the honor multiple times as a member of the First, Second or Third Teams.

In eight seasons under the direction of Head Coach Diane Madl, the Friars have celebrated three of the program's nine All-Americans. Poulin becomes the first Second-Team honoree during Madl's tenure, as Lauren Sickel (2006), Rachel Chamberlain (2006) and Poulin (2008) each earned Third-Team All-America status.

The last time a Providence field hockey player earned Second-Team All-America honors dates back to 1997, when Paula Wagoner claimed the honor.

Poulin is one of seven players in the BIG EAST Conference to earn All-America honors in 2009.

She finished the 2009 season with 30 points on 14 goals and two assists. Two of her 14 goals were game winners. On September 6, Poulin notched the second hat trick of her career, including the game-winning goal in a 4-3 win over regional-foe New Hampshire. She scored at least one goal in 11 games this season and posted two multiple-goal games.

Poulin is a three-time All-BIG EAST First-Team and NFHCA Division I All-Northeast Region selection (2007, 2008, 2009). She finished her career at Providence ranked seventh on the Friars all-time scoring list with 110 points on 49 goals and 12 assists. Her 49 goals are fourth-most all-time at Providence. She recorded 30+ points in each of her last two seasons with the program.

Poulin has been a member of the New England High Performance Team that has competed at the Women's National Championship each of the last two seasons. In the summer of 2008, Poulin helped New England capture the team title. Last summer, Poulin finished the Women's National Championship as the tournament's leading scorer with five goals.

She is the daughter of Kim and Tom Poulin, who reside in Oakland, Maine. Poulin was a stand-out field hockey and ice hockey player at St. Marks School in Southborough, Massachusetts.
