The Providence College swimming & diving teams announced the winners of their annual honors on Saturday, April 4 at the 25th annual awards dinner. Senior Blair Flynn (Middletown, R.I.) earned the Cindi Luciani Award, given to the most valuable female student-athlete in dual and championship meet competition. Junior Matthew Card (Bow, N.H.) earned the Horace Bowden Award, given to the most valuable male student-athlete in dual and championship meet competition. Earning the John O'Neill Award, which honors the most valuable male and female freshmen performers in dual and championship meet competition, were Caroline Caliri (Marblehead, Mass.) and Colin Casciano (Hewitt, N.J.).
Honored as the Most Improved Female Athlete was sophomore Courtney Larcom (Morristown, N.j.), while junior Owen Hughes (Portland, Maine) earned the Most Improved Male Athlete award. Junior Ryann Dillon (Downington, Pa.) was honored with the Sears Diving Award which recognizes the diver who makes an outstanding contribution to the sport of diving at Providence College. Juniors Carrie Lamb (New Paltz, N.Y.) and Mike Loftis(Branford, Conn.) were also honored. The two were given the David Hardy Coaches Award which honors the male and female student-athletes who exhibits those qualities which David Hardy `89 brought to Providence swimming & diving: loyalty, dedication, good sportsmanship and outstanding effort, both academically and athletically.
The Friars also named Carrie Lamb and junior Dave Wilson (Chelmsford, Mass.) as their captains for the 2009-2010 season.
