PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

Providence College women's tennis head coach Kyle LaBranche announced that the Friars have postponed head-to-head matches against Rhode Island and Hartford originally scheduled for Tuesday, September 28 and Thursday, September 30, respectively. The team was forced to reschedule the meetings due to inclement weather.

The Friars are now scheduled to play the Rhode Island Rams on Thursday, October 7 at 3:00 p.m. at the Providence College Tennis Courts. The team will then travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on Saturday, October 9 to compete in the Marist Invitational Tournament over the weekend. On Wednesday, October 13, the Friars will host Hartford at 3:00 p.m.

The Friars are led by sophomore Marisela Aviles-Duron (Tegucigalpa, Honduras). Most recently, Aviles-Duron defeated St. John's, Rhode Island and Farleigh Dickinson before losing to the eventual champion in the top-flight singles tournament at the Eastern Championships in West Point, N.Y. The impressive performance earned her Friar Athlete of the Week honors (9/20-9/26).

In their last head-to-head meeting, the Friars were defeated at Bryant, 5-2.

RHODE ISLAND (1-0, 0-0 Atlantic 10): The Rams return all but one of their players from last year's squad. The team earned their lone win against Bryant, 5-2, on September 15. In their last meeting on October 1, 2009, the Rams defeated the Friars, 7-0.

HARTFORD (0-1, 0-0 America East): The Hawks look to improve on the 2009-10 season when they went 2-20 overall. The young team is littered with underclassmen, as they return four freshmen from last year's squad. They are led by freshman No. 1 singles player Katina Zampas. The Friars are 11-0 against the Hawks since 2001.
