CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Virginia, 61-42, in non-conference action on November 18 in Charlottesville, Va. The Cavaliers, who are receiving votes in both national polls, improve to 3-0 this season. Providence falls to 1-2.

Virginia started the game on a 9-0 run before the Friars got on the board at the 14:25 mark of the first half. The Cavaliers led by as many as 17 (22-5) with 5:45 remaining on the clock. Providence came alive with a 13-5 run to cut the deficit to nine (27-18) with 2:41 remaining. Sophomore guard Tori Rule (Minneapolis, Minn.) fueled the run with 11 points. She finished the half 4-10 from the field, including 3-6 from three-point territory. Ataira Franklin led Virginia with 11 points in the opening 20 minutes.

Providence cut the lead to eight (31-23) with 17:51 on the clock to start the second half. Virginia used an 11-0 run to take a 42-23 lead with 13:07 left in the game. The Friars were scorless for a span of 5:30 until Rule put back an offensive board off a missed free throw at 12:24, to make the score 42-25.

The Cavaliers took their largest lead of the game (54-30) with 5:27 remaining in regulation and maintained control down the stretch.

Rule finished the game with a career high 14 points, while fellow sophomore Alexis Harris (Detroit, Mich.) added a career-best 12 points.

The Friars held Franklin to three points in the second half and she finished the night with a team-best 14. Sarah Imovbioh completed the afternoon with a double-double on 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Providence returns to action against No. 17/17 Delaware on Tuesday, November 20 at 7:00 p.m. in Newark, Del.
