PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team hosted Iona College on Wednesday, Nov. 28 in Providence, R.I. as a part of Project Providence. Prior to tip-off, the program held a clinic and educated students from Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut on health and fitness. The Friars (2-4) downed Iona (2-4), 70-58, with their third 70+ point game of the season.

The Friars jumped to an early 9-2 lead over Iona in the first four minutes of play. The Gaels took the lead at 10:57 (16-15) and held the advantage over Providence for the remainder of the half, which ended in a 36-32 Gael lead. Iona held its largest lead of the half with 8:37 remaining (27-19).

Providence outscored the Gaels, 38-22, in the second half. The score was tied eight times in the first 11 minutes of the half, a layup from sophomore forward Chanise Baldwin(Pontiac, Mich.) at 8:31 gave the Friars the lead (56-54), which they held for the remainder of the game.

Sophomore guard Tori Rule (Minneapolis, Minn.) finished with a career high 23 points, converting on 10-20 of her field goal attempts. Joining Rule in double figures for the Friars was senior guard Symone Roberts (New Britain, Conn.) and freshman forward Evi Iiskola(Espoo, Finland) with 16 and 10 points, respectively. Iiskola also added 10 rebounds for her first collegiate double-double.

Providence combined for 16 assists and downed 13 of its 18 free throw attempts (72.2 percent). The Friars shot 28-70 from the field (40 percent) and tallied 36 of their 70 points in the paint. The Friars held the advantage on the boards, 43-35, with 27 of their rebounds coming off of the offensive glass.

Providence returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 1 when the Friars travel to West Hartford, Conn. to take on the Hartford Hawks. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
