Final Stats

OXFORD, Ohio - The Providence College field hockey team fell in overtime, 2-1, to Miami (OH) on Sunday, November 3 in Oxford, Ohio. It marked the second-straight overtime loss for the Friars, as they dropped a 3-2, overtime, decision to 16th-ranked Louisville on Friday night in Louisville, Ky.

Providence trailed at halftime, 1-0, as Ali Froede found the back of the cage in the 29th minute of play. The Red Hawk's initial shot on a penalty corner play was saved by Deidra Clymer (South Windsor, Conn.), but the rebound found its way to Froede at the left post, and she fired it into the back of the net.

The Friars dominated the first half of play, out-shooting the Red Hawks 16-6, including a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal. Providence also held an 11-3 edge in penalty corners.

Providence scored the equalizer in the 58th minute of play to tie the game, 1-1. Junior Steph Guglielmo (Castle Rock, Colo.) was credited with the goal during a penalty corner, off a feed from junior Kaleigh FitzPatrick (Dedham, Mass.). Guglielmo's goal would eventually force overtime.

At the end of regulation, Providence held a 27-13 advantage in shots and a 14-8 edge in penalty corners.

In the overtime period, the Friars were assessed a yellow card one minute into play and were playing 6 vs. 7 hockey. Less than two minutes later, the Red Hawks had the ball in their offensive circle. Emily Gruesser took an initial shot and whiffed at the ball, but the official allowed the teams to play on. Gruesser regained possession and slipped the ball by the Providence goalkeeper for the win.

Clymer made six saves in goal for Providence, while Sarah Mueller collected 14 saves in goal for Miami (OH).

Providence concludes its season with an 8-10 overall record and finished fifth in the BIG EAST Conference, just outside the play-off chase. Miami (OH) finishes regular-season play at 10-9 and will advance to the MAC Tournament.
