PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The 2014 Longstreth / NFHCA Division I All-Region Teams were released on Monday, Nov. 17. Three Providence College field hockey players earned All-Northeast Region honors, including graduate student Caitlin Malone (Ossining, N.Y.), senior Daniella Bernasconi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and senior Henni Tietze (Sankt Augustin, Germany). Malone was named to the First Team and is eligible for selection to the All-America team, while Bernasconi and Tietze were recognized on the Second Team.
Malone, a center-mid, earns All-Northeast Region First Team honors for the first time in her career, after being named to the Second Team in 2012, 2013. She recently was named an All-BIG EAST First-Team honoree for the second-straight season and is a three-time All-BIG EAST selection overall, having been named to the Second Team in 2012. During the 2014 season, she has recorded nine points on three goals and three assists. She joined the program in 2010 as a walk-on, and has developed into one of the top players in NCAA Division I field hockey. In 67 career games with the Friars, Malone has tallied 42 points on 13 goals and 16 assists. Her assist total is tied for 17th all-time at Providence College.
Bernasconi, a two-time All-Northeast Region selection (2013, 2014) is one of the most prolific scorers in program history. She recently earned All-BIG EAST First-Team honors for the first time in her career. In 2013, she was honored as a member of the Second Team. This season, she has recorded a career-high 36 points on 15 goals and six assists. It marks the second-straight season she has scored 30+ points. Bernasconi finished her career ranked eighth all-time in career goals at Providence (39) and 10th all-time in career scoring (86 points). Her six assists in 2014 also mark a single-season career high.
Tietze is a two-time All-Northeast Region Second-Team honoree (2012, 2014). She also has closed her career at Providence as a four-time All-BIG EAST selection, having earned First-Team honors in 2012 and 2014 and Second-Team recognition in 2011 and 2013. Tietze is one of only two players in program history to earn All-BIG EAST honors as a member of the First or Second Team four times in their career. Former Friar goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain `10 was a First-Team selection for the Friars in 2006 and 2007 and a member of the Second Team in 2008 and 2009. Tietze has been an anchor for the Friars' defense at center-back during her tenure with the program. In 2014, she collected 14 points on four goals and six assists, and finishes her career with 59 (22 goals, 15 assists).
