Field Hockey Set To Begin BIG EAST Tournament Action Friday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College enters the BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship as the No. 4 seed and will face No. 1 seed Connecticut in the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 7 at 3:30 p.m. Old Dominion, who claimed the No. 2 seed, will face No. 3 seed Temple in the first semifinal of the afternoon at 1:00 p.m. The winner of each semifinal will advance to the BIG EAST Championship game on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 1:00 p.m. All games will be played at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I.

The BIG EAST Conference semifinals and championship game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network, and may be viewed by downloading the FOX Sports GO app on your mobile device or tablet, free of charge. GAME NOTES:
• Providence College claimed the final spot in the BIG EAST Championship with a 7-0 victory against Villanova on Nov. 1 in Villanova, Pa. Senior Steph Guglielmo had a hand in five of the Friars' seven goals, as she netted a career-high seven points on two goals and three assists. Freshman Megan Hamilton added six points on two goals and two assists. • Providence is making its 17th appearance all-time at the BIG EAST Championship, and returns to the tournament for the first time since 2012. Providence has recorded a 9-13 record all-time in the tournament. In 2014, the Friars are making their sixth appearance at the championship under the direction of Head Coach Diane Madl, which includes two trips to the title game (2006, 2007).

• Providence College won the inaugural BIG EAST Tournament title in 1989, and captured its second in 1991. The Friars have finished as runner-up five times (2007, 2006, 2000, 1996 and 1990).

• Providence enters the tournament with a league-best 65 goals. The Friars' 65 goals mark the second-highest single-season total in program history. In 1989, Providence tallied a school-record 67 goals. Only three times during the program's 39-year history have the Friars scored 60+ goals in a season. In addition to the current season and the 1989 campaign, Providence recorded 61 goals in 1978.

• The Friars have scored 5+ goals in a single game seven times this season. Providence scored a season-high eight goals in two games vs. Columbia (8-0) on Sept. 21 and Georgetown (8-1) on Oct. 10. Providence's eight goals vs. Columbia are tied for the most goals scored in a single-game at Lennon Family Field, which opened in 2005. The Friars also scored eight goals at the facility vs. Vermont (8-1) in 2005 and Georgetown (8-0) in 2009.

• The school record for goals in a single game at Providence is nine (vs. Fairfield in 1985 and Connecticut College in 1980).

• Freshman Megan Hamilton leads the Friars in scoring with 36 points on 15 goals and six assists. Seniors Daniella Bernasconi and Steph Guglielmo also have eclipsed the 30-point mark in the scoring column with 34 points each. Bernasconi has 14 goals and six assists, while Guglielmo checks in with 13 goals and a team-best eight assists.

• Freshman Megan Hamilton owns 36 points this season on 15 goals and six assists. Using available records dating back to the 1987 campaign (spanning the last 28 seasons), Hamilton's 36 points are the most recorded by a rookie at Providence College.

• Three other players have joined Hamilton, Bernasconi and Guglielmo in double-digits this season. Senior center-back Henni Tietze and junior midfielder Emma Mackie have each scored 14 points on four goals and six assists. Sophomore midfielder Adrienne Houle owns 11 points on five goals and one assist.

• Nine Friars have scored 3+ goals this season through 19 games.

• Providence is 0-4 this season vs. teams ranked in the NFHCA Division I National Coaches' Poll, which includes three teams in the 2014 BIG EAST Championship field. On Sept. 5, Providence fell to 13th-ranked Boston College, 3-1. On Oct. 3, the Friars surrendered a three-goal lead to 14th-ranked Temple and fell to the Owls in overtime, 4-3. On Oct. 17, Providence trailed 4th-ranked Connecticut, 3-1, with 10 minutes remaining in regulation, before the Huskies rattled off four goals in the final 9:23 of the game for a 7-1 win. On Oct. 24, Providence fell to 17th-ranked Old Dominion 2-0. Each game, with the exception of the match vs. Connecticut, was played at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I.

• Providence currently ranks seventh in the nation among NCAA Division I schools in scoring average (3.36 - per 70 minutes) and goals per game (3.42). The Friars also cracked the top-10 nationally in points per game (9.16).

• Megan Hamilton and Steph Guglielmo are the only Friars to record hat tricks this season. Guglielmo tallied three goals in the Friars' season opener vs. Vermont on Aug. 29. It marked the first hat trick of her collegiate career. Hamilton recorded her first collegiate hat trick at Maine on Sept. 26.

• Megan Hamilton leads the Friars with five multi-goal games this season. Steph Guglielmo and Daniella Bernasconi are tied for second on the team in multi-goal games with three apiece.

• Daniella Bernasconi currently ranks 10th all-time in career scoring at Providence with 84 points on 38 goals and eight assists. Her 38 goals rank eighth all-time. Steph Guglielmo and Henni Tietze rank 21st and 22nd, respectively, in career scoring at Providence. Guglielmo owns 60 points on 23 goals and 14 assists, while Tietze has tallied 59 points on 22 goals and 15 assists. Guglielmo (18th) and Tietze (20th) are also among the top-20 all-time in career goals.

• Graduate student Caitlin Malone, who originally joined the program as a walk-on in 2010, was recently named to the Victory Sports / NFHCA Division I Senior Game. During her career at Providence, Malone has recorded 42 points on 13 goals and 16 assists. Malone is a three-time All-BIG EAST (2012-14) and two-time NFHCA Division I All-Northeast Region selection, and was a Preseason All-BIG EAST honoree heading into the 2014 campaign.

• Providence's 11 wins this season are the most since 2009, when the Friars finished the season with a 12-9 mark.

• Providence is 1-1 this season in overtime games. The Friars defeated Lock Haven, 2-1, in double-overtime on Aug. 30 in Burlington, Vt. Providence fell to #14 Temple, 4-3, in overtime on Oct. 3, after surrendering a 3-0 lead in the second half.
