PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College graduate student Caitlin Malone (Ossining, N.Y.) caps off an impressive field hockey career with the Friars, earning Longstreth / NFHCA Division I All-America honors for the first time in her career as a member of the Third Team. The announcement was made by the NFHCA office on Monday, Dec. 1.
Malone is the 10th player in program history to earn All-America recognition, and the first since Nellie Poulin `10 in 2009 (Second Team). Four of the 10 All-Americans during the program's history have been mentored by current Head Coach Diane Madl. Overall, the Friars' 10 honorees have earned All-America recognition a total of 16 times.
Malone, a center-mid, recently earned NFHCA All-Northeast Region First-Team honors for the first time in her career, after being named to the Second Team in 2012, 2013. She also was named a All-BIG EAST First-Team honoree for the second-straight season and is a three-time All-BIG EAST selection overall (Second Team, 2012).
During the 2014 season, Malone recorded nine points on three goals and three assists. She joined the program in 2010 as a walk-on, and has developed into one of the top players in NCAA Division I field hockey. In 68 games with the Friars, Malone tallied 42 points on 13 goals and 16 assists. She completed her career tied for 17th all-time at Providence College in career assists.
